A Short History of The Chemistry Department at UT Dallas

1964

Southwest Center for Advanced Studies

UT Dallas owes its existence to three visionaries, Eugene McDermott, J. Erik Jonsson and Cecil Green. They deeply valued education and entrepreneurial activity. These men, who also founded Texas Instruments, found themselves importing talent from outside the state while the region’s brightest young people pursued education elsewhere.
