Christopher A. Parr Travel Award for Graduate Students
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, in the School of Natural Science and Mathematics, University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), has created the Christopher A. Parr Travel Award for Graduate Students.
This award was created to recognize Dr. Christopher A. Parr’s contribution to the creation of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Texas at Dallas. Dr. Parr joined UTD in 1971 as the first-of-four founding faculty in the Department of Chemistry. His training was in Theoretical Chemistry, and he taught multiple courses including General Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Atmospheric Chemistry. Dr. Parr was admired by students and ultimately became the Dean of Undergraduate Studies, a position he held from 1987 to 1994. Even after his retirement from UTD in 2001, he remained active in Plano community activities, particularly for his advocacy for public libraries. The city of Plano honored Dr. Parr for his 27 years of volunteer service by naming their newest public library at the time, the Christopher A. Parr Library.
The Christopher A. Parr award aims to support graduate students in presenting their research at professional meetings. One award of $750 will be offered in the Fall semester. The award amount will be reimbursed to the student. Priority will be given to graduate students who have not previously received travel funding from the department or school. Each graduate student is eligible to receive this award only once during their graduate education.
